The stage was set. The floral torans were up on the front door of Icon Shakuntala Bharne’s maternal uncle’s home. Fallari House in Aquem, Margao, was packed with our guests, seated on mats, mattresses, and bedspreads, waiting for the workshop to begin.
A little earlier, Heta Pandit had conducted a quick tour of the heritage home, introducing the Fallari family to the guests.

When the workshop began, Icon Shakuntala Bharne shared stories from her childhood, stories from her internship with the great doyen of the Kirana gharana, Smt Gangubai Hangal. As she shared, she performed, she ruled like a goddess on stage. Emotions flowed with the music. Artists Vaibhav Salgaokar, Miriam Koshy Sukhija, and Leandra Fernandes sketched and painted as a light rain opened the evening and the sun bowed out of the day. There was only one word that could describe the experience: MAGIC
